E (Excellent); S (Satisfactory); and U (Unsatisfactory)
Note that class participation is an academic grade.
Expectations
1. Be on time and ready for class
2. ALWAYS be respectful
3. No personal grooming
4. Cell phones and other electronic devices must be put away during class time**
5. Keep the environment neat and clean and keep all belongings on back of chair or under desk
**Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones and electronic devices are a disruption to the educational process. Keep in mind that the use of such devices in class can imply a lack of class participation on your part and class participation is an academic grade.
Absence/Tardy
Being excessively absent or tardy can have a negative effect on your grade, as a large portion of the work done in class cannot be made up. You receive a weekly academic grade for your participation in class, which may include mini-assignments, note taking, discussions, presentations, etc.
Homework/Late Work
Assignments will vary and some will be self-assigned from class/group work in order to meet deadlines. Late work will not be accepted unless an extension is requested before the due date. Please manage your time wisely.
Note on Plagiarism - The reproduction or misuse of someone else's work without proper acknowledgment/credit will result in an F for that assignment.
Email Procedure
When sending work as an attachment, include a short note in your email that states who you are and the purpose of the email. No blank emails.
Progressive Discipline will be enforced
1st infraction = warning/meeting with student
2nd infraction = call home
3rd infraction = detention/make-up class (dates will vary) [no show = defiance]
4th infraction = parent conference
5th infraction = out of class referral
On the other hand, focusing on doing your best can result in positive calls/notes home, better grades, a constructive environment etc.
***IMPORTANT REMINDER (and yes, I am repeating this yet again): Class Participation (being on time, taking notes, asking questions, listening, pair/group work, etc.) is an academic grade. Actions such as texting, use of electronic devices, excessive social chatter, grandstanding, and being tardy interrupt the educational process and can have a negative effect on your academic grade.
Also, “PASSES” will not be issued during class. Please don’t ask.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I have read this syllabus and agree to abide by all the policies, procedures and requirements as well as any classroom expectations. Above all, respect for myself, for other students and for the teacher, will be required at ALL times. Parental signature also signifies the understanding of these policies and expectations.
